Wine tasting at Krapež Wine estate
DECANTER PLATINUM MEDAL FOR MALVAZIJA 2018 "Complex mango, spice, vanilla, toffee, fig, and orange nose. The palate is full, broad and fresh with intense notes of mandarin, candied peel, and lively acidity. Long, salty finish; fantastic wine!"
VINA KRAPEŽ wine estate is located in the beautiful village of Vrhpolje in the Vipava Valley, at the foothills of Nanos and Kovk. In the past, the sea deposited rich layers of flysch and marl which make good grounds for vines.
It began in 1928...
1928 Grandpa Jožef Krapež buys The “Pr’potokovo” farm (meaning: Near the stream farm) in Vrhpolje and moves from Gora (nearby hill) to the valley, starting the beginning of the viticulture and winemaking family – VINA KRAPEŽ. Hard work, horny hands, sweaty face, day after day, for the family to survive, for the farm to develop and advance. His son Jožef was developing and building the name of the Krapež farm from a young age. His first and last thought was always the cellar, in the morning opening and in the evening closing its door.
1971 Jožef Jr. decides to sign a document not to give the grapes to the Vipava Wine Cooperative anymore. Since then, Krapež has been an independent viticulturer and winegrower.
the 3rd generation in 1987 1987 Jožef's son Martin assumes the responsibility for the cellar and wine.
1990 The first vintage of our own bottling, the family farm engages completely in viticulture, wine growing and trade.
1994 The first vintage of barrique wines – matured in oak barrels.
1999 Aiming at low yields per vine, structured wines; increasing the sense for nature and its priorities.
