Gorizia Hills wine region
The area of Gorizia Hills lies in the area of 140 km2 between the Soča Valley, Sabotin Mountain, Korada Mountain and the Idrija River. The hills are a mostly hilly world, slowly descending towards the Preval plain. If you are looking for the best view in the Gorizia Hills, we invite you to climb to the tower on Gonjač, from where the view will in good weather cover the Italian Dolomites, the Alps and the Adriatic Sea. The soil in Brda was formed from oceanic sedimentary mass, which means that today flysch, sandstone and limestone dominate here. The soil is poor in terms of minerals and humus content and very difficult to process, but at the same time ideal for vine growth. Soil composition and mild climate with mild winters and hot but not dry summers provided perfect conditions for wine production. Gorizia Hills is a typical Mediterranean wine region, where in addition to the vine grow olive groves, cherries and peaches. In Gorizia Hills wine is produced up to 600 m above sea level.
The Wines of Gorizia Hills
Higher-position wines are more harmonious and elegant, with less alcohol but more acid. The lower positions make it possible to produce wines with a fuller and richer taste. Gorizia Hills is best known for its red wine Rebula, and in addition to the red Rebula, we also find wines like Gray Pinot, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet.
