The wine-growing region of Slovenian Istria extends over 2,400 hectares along 40 km of the Slovenian coast, marked by the area of cliffs and river valleys cut into it and the immediate vicinity of the Adriatic Sea. The coastal region has the warmest climate in Slovenia, where the average annual temperature is 13.8 degrees, which means that saline is a very rare occurrence in this part. Soil cultivation dates back to the time of the ancient Romans, who were the first in the area to start cultivating slopes and establishing terraces. The terraces enlarged the area of cultivated land and helped to make better use of the space. Even today we can see vineyards still standing on these terraces.
